A Gorgeous Day To Fly

I entered the Mash Stories flash fiction competition on a whim, and they selected my story, “A Gorgeous Day to Fly” for the shortlist! This means I get to use the fancy sounding word “shortlist” with reference to my own writing. It also means my story will be professionally narrated, possibly even by someone with a British accent, for the Mash Stories podcast. Being on the shortlist means my story is a contender for overall contest winner. The winner receives $100 and a free 30 minute coaching session.

The rules of the contest were that you had to use three words: blow-dryer, cockpit, and honesty, and that the story not exceed 500 words. I scribbled out a story quickly, as soon as I heard about the contest. Two months later, about 18 hours before the deadline, I fretted over it for probably way too long, making a change here and a change there for probably way too long.

You can read my story, “A Gorgeous Day to Fly” here. If you are so inclined, you can help me win by voting for my story. The jury takes into account how many votes each story has garnered as they make their decision on the winner. They will announce the winning story on February 15th.

If you are inspired to take a stab at this fun competition, they are taking submissions for the next round now.
