Q: My husband is big on “diet talk.” He’s always referring to food as “good” or “bad.” If he has a “bad” eating day he talks about “getting back on the horse” to have a good eating day tomorrow. How do you recommend responding to this? A: I love this question. Jen! First things first. I don’t know how long you’ve been with your guy but as anyone who has been in a relationship for more than about a minute knows, you can’t make someone change. Even if you’re obviously right, even if they’re leading themselves down a path of self-destruction, even you’re going to lose your mind if you see one more crumpled up receipt on the counter… you get the idea. People change only when they want to (and even then, it can be hard.)

How Not To Make Allergy-Friendly Breakfast Quinoa
I make a mean allergy-friendly breakfast quinoa. I'm talking dairy-free, egg-free, vegan, nut-free and gluten-free. I am no domestic goddess, but this is one area where I excel. "But financially, it hardly makes sense," I countered. Ever the optimist, he responded, "I don't care if it costs us money. If it makes … Continue reading Why Being a SAHM Is The Best… For Your Partner
I Don’t Feel Bad About Fighting in Front of the Kids
I'm suspicious of couples that claim they never fight. These people are either a) lying, or b) unicorns. My husband and I fight. I wish we didn't, but both of us are way too stubborn for that. I get annoyed that he never knows where anything is. He finds it grating when I immediately ask for help … Continue reading I Don’t Feel Bad About Fighting in Front of the Kids
The Story Behind There’s No Room for Fear in a Burley Trailer
Not long after Dan and I met, he said, "It would be so fun to publish a book of your best blog posts." I said, "Yeah!" And then after I thought about it some more, I said "No!" Dan kept bugging me about it, and I kept saying no, and after a while he started … Continue reading The Story Behind There’s No Room for Fear in a Burley Trailer
