34| A live coaching session with Natalie Rotelli, biostatistician, athlete, and recovering perfectionist

TW: weight loss, dieting

Ever wondered what actually happens in a coaching session? This is your chance to find out. This episode features a little bit of interviewing and a lot of coaching with my fabulous friend Natalie Rotelli. She’s a biostatistician, athlete, mom, stepmom, and wife, who is crazy smart, incredibly driven, and funny as hell.

In this episode, we take a deep dive into where some of her perfectionist tendencies come from and how she’s changed since realizing they were no longer serving her relationship with food, exercise, and her weight. We talk about where she’s feeling successful in navigating her intuitive eating journey and did some troubleshooting in the areas where she’s struggling.

We also discuss...

  • Joining swim team and cross-country as a kid

  • The extra pressure to maintain a thin physique that came with being a first-generation American

  • Hanging her identity on her size

  • Giving up the diet mentality and opening her eyes to diet culture (and trying to turn intuitive eating into a diet)

  • Discontinuing her lifelong practice of weighing herself

  • Some of the highs and lows in her journey to self-acceptance

  • The complicated feelings that come with returning to the office in a bigger body after working from home for nearly two years

  • Wrestling with food choices and the struggle to let go of ingrained weight loss aspirations
